Podcast Studio in Kochi: Record at Veedo – The Studio

Malayalam-language podcasts have exploded in the last 18 months — sports, business, comedy, true crime, long-form interviews — and most of the new creators in Kerala are running into the same wall: their bedroom audio sounds amateur, and their video looks like a Zoom call. The fix is a real podcast studio. Here's an honest guide to recording a podcast in Kochi — what to look for, what we run at Veedo Noir, and what to expect when you walk in for your first session.

What Makes a Great Podcast Studio

The temptation is to spend on microphones. The real difference is the room. A ₹100,000 mic in an untreated bedroom sounds worse than a ₹5,000 mic in a properly treated room. In order of priority:

1. Acoustic treatment

Echo and reverb are the dead giveaway of amateur podcast audio. They are physically caused by sound waves bouncing off hard, flat surfaces — bare walls, glass, ceilings. A treated podcast studio has soft material (acoustic panels, bass traps, diffusers) placed to absorb and scatter those reflections. Veedo Noir is treated specifically for voice recording — broadcast-clean audio out of the camera, with no post-production echo cleanup needed.

2. Background noise floor

Podcast audio picks up *everything* — traffic outside, an AC compressor in the next room, a fan ticking. A good podcast studio sits in a quiet building, runs AC on a low-noise spec, and has thick doors. Veedo's Mamangalam location is in a business building set back from the main road; the floor's AC is positioned and tuned for clean recording.

3. The microphone signal chain

The actual hardware matters once the room is right. The current professional standard for podcasts is the Shure SM7B or the more affordable Shure MV7 — both broadcast-grade dynamic mics that reject room noise and reverb naturally. Veedo Noir offers Shure-class dynamic microphones on a balanced audio interface with phantom power, recording into 24-bit/48kHz multitrack so each guest is on a separate channel for clean post-production.

4. Video-grade lighting

Modern podcasts are visual. If you upload to YouTube or Spotify Video — and you should — the lighting needs to flatter on camera without creating ear shadows or hot spots on glasses. Veedo Noir has a three-point continuous LED setup tuned for podcast video, with diffusion to soften the look.

5. Comfortable seating and an even mic level

A two-hour podcast is a two-hour seat. Veedo provides matched seating heights and adjustable mic booms so each host and guest reads at the same camera and audio level — no slumping, no leaning, no mic-too-close pops.

Equipment at Veedo Noir

When you book a podcast session at Veedo, the floor comes pre-rigged. You bring your script and your guest; we run everything else.

  • Microphones: Shure-class broadcast dynamic mics, one per host/guest

  • Audio interface: Multi-channel USB interface with phantom power, recording each mic to a separate track

  • Recording: 24-bit / 48kHz multitrack via Reaper or Logic Pro

  • Cameras: Multi-cam setup — wide two-shot, close on host, close on guest — for typical interview podcasts

  • Lighting: Continuous LED key + fill + hair light, diffused for soft skin tones

  • Monitoring: Closed-back headphones for each host and guest, with independent volume

  • Backdrops: Dark textured wall (the most popular look), backdrop rolls in black/grey/white/brown for different visual identities

  • Optional: Teleprompter, additional cameras, livestream wiring (advance notice)
  • Solo, Duo, or Panel — Which Setup Fits Your Show?

    Solo podcast (1 host)

The simplest setup. One mic, one camera, often a tighter background. Lumen works visually for a warm, talking-head solo show. Noir works for cinematic, story-driven solo formats. Half-day package is more than enough for 2–3 episodes batched.

    Duo / interview (2 people)

The most common Veedo booking — a host and one guest. Matched-height seats, two mics on booms, wide two-shot plus two close-ups. The recommended studio is Noir for audio-priority interviews, Lumen if the show is brand-aligned and visually bright. A half-day session is comfortable for one in-depth interview plus a few short-form clip reshoots; a full day is right if you're batching multiple guests in one shoot.

    Panel (3–4 people)

Round-table format with three or four mics and a wide camera angle to fit everyone. Noir is the only studio at Veedo with the right acoustic spec for panel — multiple voices bouncing around an untreated room is the worst-case scenario for audio. Plan for a full-day session for panel recording.

What to Expect on Your First Podcast Recording at Veedo

    Before the day

  • • Send us your guest count and rough run time on WhatsApp +91 99956 60056. We confirm the floor, the package, and your call time.

  • • We pre-rig the mics and the camera frame the day before. You don't burn studio time on setup.

  • • Bring your laptop if you want to do live edits, a hard drive for raw audio handoff, and any branded backdrops or set dressing you want on camera.
  • When you arrive

  • • 10 minutes of seat-and-mic calibration. We'll dial each voice for level so you get clean gain-staged tracks.

  • • 5 minutes of camera review on a monitor — confirm framing, lighting, and any product placement.

  • • Hit record. Most first-time podcasters say the first minute is awkward and minute two onward feels natural.
  • After

  • • We hand over raw 24-bit / 48kHz audio per mic (so your editor can clean and mix per track), plus the camera files.

  • • If you want, we can hand off into a trusted local edit-and-publish team who post-produce Malayalam and English podcasts in Kochi.
  • Choosing Between Lumen and Noir for Your Podcast

Audio-priority shows (interview, news, long-form discussion) → Veedo Noir. The acoustic treatment is the deciding factor.

Visual-priority shows (brand interview series, lifestyle, beauty, food) → Veedo Lumen. The natural light and bright editorial look is the calling card. See more on the studio floors and full [studio rental rates in Kochi](/pricing).
